Bread pudding
The bread based desserts are very popular all around the world. Each country has their own version of bread pudding, with their own method of preparation, and their own special ingredients. It has various names all around the world. . In India, Hyderabad we have a similar bread based dish called Double- ka- meeta or Shahi tukda. Double roti means bread, meeta is sweet, Shahi means kingly, tukda means pieces. Preparation techniques are different and eggs are not used in it. But, all most all the ingredients are same.
Bread pudding is rich and nutritious. It has the healthy ingredients such as milk, eggs. The delicious aroma of the cinnamon fills the room when it is baking, almost taking you to heaven. If you love bread pudding but not the high calories, I have a quick fix for you. Sustitute milk with low fat and butter with margarine, use splenda instead of sugar.. Ingredients:
Bread - 5/6 slices
Butter - 2 tbsp, melted
Raisins - 1/4 cup soaked in water
Eggs - 4, beaten
Milk - 2 cups
Sugar - 1 cup (Adjust accordingly)
Cinnamon - 1/4 tsp grounded
Vanilla essence - few drops
Method:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Cut the bread into small pieces and place it into baking pan.
Soften or melt the butter and drizzle over bread. Sprinkle raisins on top.
In a mixing bowl, combine eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla. Beat thoroughly and pour over bread, until the bread is covered and soaked . Sprinkle sugar crystals on top to get the caramel colour.
Bake it in the oven for 45 minutes or until golden brown on top.
