Moong dal

This is my all time favourite since childhood.  Moong dal is also called as green lentils.  It appears green with the skin and yellow without skin. Moong dal can also be used as sprouts, which is healthy and nutritious.

Ingredients:
Moong dal - 1 cup soaked
Onions 1 sliced
Green chillies-  2 chopped
Red chillies 2
mustard and cumin - 1/4 tsp
curry leaves - 1 sprig
Tomatoes -2 chopped
Red chilli pwd - 1/4 tsp
turmeric pwd - pinch
salt
Oil for seasoning
Coriander for garnishing

Method:
Pour oil in a dish and start the seasoning.  Add red chillies, mustard,  cumin, allow it to crackle, then add the onions, green chillies, curry leaves, fry till slightly brown. Add the tomatoes and cook until smooth.  Add  Red chilli pwd, and turmeric pwd. Now add the soaked moong dal and 1/2 cup water and cook till soft. garnish with coriander.
Serve hot with roti or steamed rice.

Tips:  Moong dal , split lentils doesn't need lot of  time to cook.  Add more water if you want it to be more runny . Cook until it is really soft and  You can also have it like soup

Variation:  Add fresh methi, it gives a different taste altogether.
