Phool gobi fry


Toronto vegetarian  Association is a diverse community of individuals who are passionate about healthy eating, sustainable living and compassion for animals. They have the resources pertaining to vegetarianism.  Information regarding Vegetarian hotels/ restaurants in and around the city.  Vegetarian food supply, Grocery stores, book stores, Vegetarian chocolates, Vegetarian clothes yes, you heard it right.  Clothes made with plant material. They don't use wool or leather.  They give out the important  information about healthy eating, conduct various workshops,seminars, and North America's biggest  Annual Vegetarian food fair. This is the highlight of all... The Annual Vegetarian Food Fair gives  an unparalleled opportunity to enjoy a diverse cross-section of vegetarian cuisine. Gives an opportunity to  discover new products, ideas from more than 100 exhibitors and enjoy a wide variety of presentations and live cooking Demonstrations done by top chefs and enjoy the product samples and food sampling too. It is a place to look for new ideas, to add colour and variety to meals, expand knowledge of nutritious and ethnical foods.

 Though I am not totally a vegetarian, I am a strong supporter of Vegetarianism,  because of the various health benefits that come with it.   I  thoroughly enjoyed volunteering at Veg food fair at Toronto, continuously for couple of years.  I made some nice vegetarian friends, learnt some new recipes through cooking demos etc.  I learnt this recipe  at this place  and customized  it according to my taste.  I baked the florets instead of deep frying them in oil, to make it more healthy.  If  It's hard to get the kids to eat the Vegetables.  Reduce the spice content and serve them. They would enjoy it with you

Ingredients:
Cauliflower / phool gobi - 1 head, washed and break into florets
Salt
Chilli pwd -  1 tsp
Dhaniya - 1 tsp
Turmeric pwd - a pinch
Ginger garlic paste -  1/2 tsp
Corn flower - 1 tbsp
Maida  - 1 tbsp
Rice flower - 1 tbsp
water - 2 tbsp ( adjust)
Oil - 2 tbsp
Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
Jeera - 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves - 1 tsp
Onion - 1 finely sliced
Green chillies - 4 sliced ( adjust accordingly)
Coriander - 1 tbsp finley chopped
Garam masala pwd - 1/4 tsp
Lemon juice - 1 tsp

Method:
Break apart the cauliflower into florets .
In  a bowl  add salt, chilli powder, daniya, turmeric powder, maida, corn flour, rice flour, ginger garlic paste, water and mix it well to make a paste. Apply it on the florets evenly or (take a ziplock bag and put the florets and the spice mix, close the bag and shake it well.)
Place  the florets on a greased pan and bake it  until it is soft.  Approx 10 mins at 350 deg C.
In a frying pan pour oil and add mustard, jeera, green chillies, sliced onions, curry leaves and fry. Add the Gobi florets and fry. add garam masala,  Sprinkle lemon juice and toss it well and garnish with coriander.  Serve with rice or roti.

  2. Not a big fan of cauliflower I try and avoid it.But your dish looks really appetising maybe I wil try your version.You have anice space here following your blog.Do drop by simply.food some time.
