French toast

This is one of our favorite breakfast dishes. It works best with the old loaf of bread. Thick slices are prefered for this recipe. If the bread is freshly baked or the slices cut too thin it tends to get mushy and fall apart when soaked in the egg milk mixture. Some people add liquer to the mixture for the extra zing. I add half spoon of sugar to the mixture to make it more sweeter for the kids but you can avoid it, if not preferd. A lot of variations can be done with this recipe by adding vanilla, cinnamon, zest etc.

Ingredients:
                 4 eggs
                 2/3 cup milk
                 2 teaspoons of Cocoa powder
4 thick slices of bread
2 tbsp Butter / Margarine
2tbsp Maple syrup or sprinkle of powdered sugar
Strawberries /Fresh fruit

Method

1
Beat eggs, milk, and Cocoa powder together. Whisk until well blended. Pour into a shallow bowl.

2 Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, allowing bread to soak up some of the mixture. Melt some butter (or use vegetable oil for healthier version) over a large skillet on medium high heat. Add as many slices of bread onto the skillet as will fit at a time. Fry until brown on both sides, flipping the bread when necessary.

3 Sprinkle the sugar powder on top and serve with optional fruit on the side.

Serving options
: Serve with butter, maple syrup, honey, fresh berries or any seasonal fruit.
